The Barley Mow pub and restaurant in Tandridge, Oxted
Blog, InTandridge Update

Plenty of laughter, hitting a six, hiring a skip and more…

It’s been a busy and productive couple of weeks since my last update!

Oven Sheen (oven and BBQ cleaners), Knights Garden Centres (garden centres in Chesham and Woldingham), The Wedding LookBook (all in one wedding boutique for everything you need when you’re planning a wedding), Arenn Electrical (local Caterham electrician) and Westerham Cars (taxi and mini-bus service) have all gone live on InTandridge with local business profiles; we’ve had our 27,000th user (and another 324, meaning a total of 27,324 users at the time of typing this); and I’ve been up to the following locally…

Friday 5 May – A few friends and I headed to House of Stand Up’s Caterham Comedy night at Soper Hall.  It’s the 3rd time I’ve been and it was another great night of laughter! I definitely recommend it and it’s fantastic value for money with their £10 early bird tickets.  It’s run by a really nice guy called Trevor, who let me know about some big names they’ve got coming up over the next few months, including Lee Hurst! It’s a monthly comedy show and the next one is on Friday 2 June.  We’ve got 2 tickets to give away for this show, you can enter our give away on our Facebook page

Saturday 6 May – We mentioned that Woldingham Village Cricket Club are looking for new players and with them being one short for their league opener, I filled in.  We fielded first, bowling the opposition out for 148 on the very last ball of their 40 over innings.  I batted at no.6 scoring a quick 16 (including a big six) and with a brilliant innings from Mike (who scored 77 runs) – we went on to win the game!  Woldingham also won their league match last weekend making it 2 wins out of 2 so far this season!

Monday 8 May – I received a phone call out of the blue from Jim, who promotes his local business, James Tandy Gardening & Handyman Service with InTandridge. Jim wanted to thank me as he’s just secured a brilliant long term gardening contract for a huge garden overlooking Woldingham!

Wednesday 10 May – I met Stephen (Steve) and Nicola (Nicky), the new owners of The Barley Mow (pub and restaurant in Tandridge)!  The Barley Mow’s currently closed as Steve and Nicky have refurbished the interior and landscaped the pub garden, ready for it’s (re)opening on Saturday 20 May. They’ve got some great ideas for the pub and really want to make it the heart of the local community. During our chat, I found out that The Barley Mow needed a new website and I managed to save them around 50% of what they were going to pay, by using the website design service through my other company, Nine 8 Nine Design & Print.  I took some photos while I was there and we’ve designed them a great looking website that Nicky’s delighted with and we’re on course to go live on Friday 20 May… a 10 day turnaround!

Saturday 13 May – I took my daughters to play football on The Glebe in Woldingham at the regular (9.30am) Saturday morning kick about, very kindly organised by a couple of Woodlea School parents. We then went to meet Nick from Angry Beaver Tree Surgerywho also, very kindly, cut a stump and donated it to my eldest daughter for her ‘bug hotel’ school project!

Wednesday 17 May – I had a skip delivered by local Warlingham skip hire company, Motion Grab & Skip Hire. I only ordered it from Clinton yesterday and it arrived the next morning, on time.  The driver said they can usually collect it the same day I’m finished or the next day – great service!

Thursday 18 May (Today) – I was looking forward to a meeting with Janette at Knights Garden Centre today, but unfortunately we had to re-arrange as my wife noticed a flat tyre on the school run… so I spent the morning sorting it out!  I could see the screw in the tyre and luckily I was able to pump the tyre up and head to Wraysbury Tyres. As always, they provided a great service and as the tyre was a special self repair tyre, they sorted it and re-aligned the tyre for less than £15!
