2nd Annual Charity T20 Cricket Match, Wednesday 5 July 2017

InTandridge ‘Tigers’ VS Woldingham Village Cricket Club

Raising money for Home-Start East Surrey

Our second annual charity T20 cricket match v Woldingham Village Cricket Club saw a much more evenly contested game… largely due to us poaching their opening batsman and playing with 12 players!

In the charity match, sponsored by TheFourTeas, Woldingham won the toss, with their captain, Angelo, electing to bat first.

Sam Edwards opened the bowling for ‘The Tigers’, bowling brilliantly with the match ball, sponsored by Nine 8 Nine Design & Print. James Scott, Paul Bennett, and Stewart Brennan followed Edwards, bowling their maximum 4 overs, which was backed up by Darren Fox, Ben White and Rick Kolkman, who also had short spells.

The umpires, sponsored by Britannia Sandersteads, had a fairly easy afternoon with only one major decision to make, with a huge LBW appeal from Brennan’s bowling.  The decision went in the batsman’s favour but we did take 6 wickets, with Kolkman taking 2 fantastic catches and the stumps, sponsored by Chenash Cleaners, shattered on a couple of occasions!

The Tigers had some missed opportunities in the field and Woldingham made us pay, hitting plenty of boundaries (sponsored by Pinks Funeral Directors) and going on to score an impressive 191-6 from their allotted 20 overs.

With a large score to chase, The Tigers opening batsmen got off to a good start, with Mike Redfearne hitting 40 not out (retiring at 25 and coming back to bat as per our match rules) and Tom Gowers hitting 17.  Unfortunately, Stuart Flynn and Kirk Owen didn’t score as many runs as they did last year, but Edwards (34) Owen-Skull (28 not out) and Scott (15) helped us reach 173 runs from our 20 overs.

The game was played in brilliant spirit and there was a large crowd, with a great atmosphere enjoying the cricket on show.

Woldingham Village Club Bar & Kitchen sponsored and ran the BBQ and bar, which was well used and definitely appreciated by all in attendance!

Debbie and Cliff from Home-Start East Surrey ran the raffle and along with match donations, sponsorship money, bar and BBQ funds…

We are pleased to say that we have raised £1,925 for Home-Start East Surrey!

(If you would still like to make a donation, you can do so online here)

We would like to say a massive thank you to Woldingham Village Cricket Club and Hugo Wymer, who helped us to put on this great event. To Julie and Neil from the Woldingham Village Club Bar and Kitchen, to all of our match sponsors, raffle prize donators, players and everyone that came along on the day and helped us to have a great event, raising a huge amount for a very worthy local charity.
